Battling for the Harrison County Council
The Courier-Journal has a nice article about the four races that will determine who controls the Harrison County Council in the fall. Election night is sure to be a nail-biter down at the courthouse in Corydon.
District 1
This district is heavily Democrat. A lawn chair, so long as it has a "D" after it on the ballot, could win here. Leslie Robertson will certainly win by a sizable margin.
District 2
The Nichols-Davis race will be a close one. Incumbent Republican Davis is unpopular in one of the district's townships (Franklin) because he opposed money to repair schools in Lanesville earlier in the year, but he will win big in Jackson township. Even so, he could have an unexpected boost from his advocacy of the Vincennes education initiative. Stunt or not, it has the potential to help him. The question is whether which man will have the bigger win margin in their respective township "base" on election night.
District 3
Gordon Pendleton is probably one of the most respected men in Corydon, if not all of Harrison County. He doesn't even really need to campaign to win this race, and win it big. He has stature and name recognition in the community that a newcomer like Bruce Fry probably can never hope to overcome.
District 4
Republican Ralph Sherman is popular in the southern parts of the county. He will probably win easily on election night, even in a Democratic year.
It will still be four-to-three on the Harrison County Council after the election results are in. The outcome of the race in District 2 will determine the balance of power on the Council. This one will keep the Harrison County political circles up late on Election Night.
