RNC Update: The Conservative Steering Group "Plot" (If There Ever Was One) Falls Apart

In recent days, I have blogged extensively (here, here, and here) about the Conservative Steering Committee started by Indiana RNC member Jim Bopp, and its supposed centrality to a scheme to use a straw poll of its members to reelect Mike Duncan as RNC chairman.

Today, this plot fell apart, if it ever even existed (something of which I remain doubtful). The Conservative Steering Committee, supposedly created to endorse Mike Duncan and give him conservative cred (or was it?) decided that it didn't want to have a straw poll.

In addition to common sense questions about voting procedures, even Jim Geraghty over at NRO's Campaign Spot was raising questions about secret ballots in the straw poll (or rather, the potential lack of secret ballots). Regardless, there wasn't a straw poll and the Conservative Steering Committee hasn't endorsed anybody.

So much for that.

Meanwhile, somebody in Ohio sure doesn't like Ken Blackwell enough to do an anonymous smear on him. Sort of like certain people in Michigan don't like Saul Anuzis, certain people in Tennessee don't like Chip Saltsman, certain people in South Carolina don't like Katon Dawson, certain people in Maryland don't like Michael Steele, and most people outside of the Beltway don't like Mike Duncan.

Also, I haven't had a chance to watch the RNC debate as yet (that's why I haven't blogged about it). I tried to catch it on C-SPAN last night but wasn't able to watch the whole thing. I'll blog more after I watch it.
