Michael Steele: Abortion Is “Individual Choice”

Just when you thought that he couldn't screw up any worse than he already has:

How much of your pro-life stance, for you, is informed not just by your Catholic faith but by the fact that you were adopted?
Oh, a lot. Absolutely. I see the power of life in that—I mean, and the power of choice! The thing to keep in mind about it… Uh, you know, I think as a country we get off on these misguided conversations that throw around terms that really misrepresent truth.

Explain that.

The choice issue cuts two ways. You can choose life, or you can choose abortion. You know, my mother chose life. So, you know, I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other.

Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?

Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice.

You do?

Yeah. Absolutely.

Hot Air is running a poll on whether Steele should go or not. As of this posting, it's neck-and-neck. Only 29% want to give Steele a chance. 43% want him gone now. The remaining 28% are just divided over what the straw that breaks the camel's back should be.

I'm thinking that NY 20 is that straw, and the back seems ready to break if the latest polls in that race are any indication.

And, believe it or not, Michael Steele is going to be with Sarah Palin at the Vanderburgh County Right-to-Life dinner in mid-April.

I wonder whether his invitation might get lost in the mail after his statements.
